As of June 28, 2025, the European Accessibility Act (EAA) is in force. This means Real-Time Text (RTT) is now a legally required standard for any communication service aimed at the public – including telecom and IP-based calling, messaging apps, websites, mobile applications, healthcare communication services, and public e-services offering voice communication.

Unlike SMS or chat, RTT allows text to be transmitted character-by-character during a live call – mirroring the immediacy and natural flow of a voice conversation. It enables efficient, real-time interaction for anyone who cannot – or should not – speak, whether due to disability or context (like being on a noisy train or in a quiet waiting room).
