• RTT Provides Meaningful Accessibility to Emergency Services

  • For most people, it is a given that they will quickly be able to reach Emergency Services when facing a crisis. For Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing people, Emergency Services are rarely only “one call away”. However, Real-Time Text (RTT) makes that possible.

    Despite more and more countries having implemented alternate solutions for emergency calls, these are not sufficient. We can do more. The need for bespoke tools for this underserved sector of the population is great, and their options for calling Emergency Services and other useful services are still very limited. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate RTT into the same call flow as voice, to facilitate meaningful access to emergency services. 

    It may be a given for many – quickly being able to reach 112/911/999 in an emergency – but it is still a real challenge for the Deaf and DeafBlind. Despite technological advancements, this is a widespread problem in large parts of the world, where outdated systems are still in use, and a lack of awareness of the problem on the part of decision makers means that nothing gets done about it.

    Our solution, MMX RTT Conference Bridge, is a key element in the Next Generation Core Services (NGCS) to effectively connect RTT calls to a PSAP. It is developed to meet the NENA i3 standards and NG112 requirements.
